DisasterAWARE Enterprise, a new Software as a Service that extends life-saving technology to businesses worldwide, was just awarded Enterprise Preparedness Product of the Year by Compass Intelligence. Compass Intelligence is a leading market acceleration and research firm that recognizes organizations making significant contributions or introducing innovative technologies to the Internet of Things, mobile and wireless communications industries.

The new DisasterAWARE Enterprise system was developed by the University of Hawaiʻi’s Pacific Disaster Center (PDC), a risk reduction research center. The enterprise service offering is provided by Kaazing, a leading provider of large-scale mobile messaging transactions. DisasterAWARE Enterprise was launched on April 10, 2018, jointly by Kaazing and PDC. The new software heavily leverages Kaazing technology to scale PDC’s DisasterAWARE platform for global business use. For more than 10 years, the public version of DisasterAWARE has aided disaster preparedness, response, humanitarian relief and risk reduction for the world’s most demanding government customers.

“To receive this recognition so soon after launching DisasterAWARE Enterprise is both an honor and a reward for years of hard work pioneering uncharted territories,” said PDC Executive Director Ray Shirkhodai. Releasing PDC’s innovative technology for private use was no small task, requiring collaboration of UH and state legislators to consider new policies and joint PDC and Kaazing efforts to scale the platform and services for enterprise use. “The fruit of our collaborations is that now we can offer to the private sector tried-and-true risk intelligence technology used for decades to protect the public.”

Kaazing CEO Bob Miller said, “For some time, we’ve understood the importance of this work, but to have it recognized by a third party like Compass Intelligence so readily is inspiring.”

Miller said businesses continue to struggle with uninsured damage and lost revenue from record-setting natural disaster losses in 2017, and that Kaazing and PDC are now at the forefront of helping businesses turn a corner using the “best-of-breed risk intelligence, predictive modeling and global hazard monitoring” for business management and continuity planning worldwide.

“We are excited at this recognition of our center for innovation in science and technology in disaster risk reduction,” said UH President David Lassner. “This new partnership will promote broader corporate and community resilience by expanding the reach of DisasterAWARE technology beyond the existing base of users. We are delighted to receive such a warm reception to the marketplace.”
