The PDC team was excited to join an impressive array of talent and experience to deliver the Kickoff Workshop for the Madagascar National Disaster Preparedness Baseline Assessment (NDPBA) in partnership with the Bureau National de Gestion des Risques et des Catastrophes (BNGRC) in Antananarivo. Over 40 participants from 15 ministries, agencies, the UN, World Food Program, IFRC, and non-governmental organizations attended the event. The BNGRC Deputy Director General and the US Embassy Security Cooperation Office Chief joined PDC in providing introductory remarks.

Devastating hurricane-force winds are expected along portions of the west coast of Florida, and life-threatening hurricane-force winds are anticipated to spread inland across the peninsula and to portions of Florida eastern coast.
A large area of destructive storm surge (with highest inundations of 10 feet or greater) is expected along a portion of the west-central coast of the Florida Peninsula, and heavy rains bring a risk of catastrophic and life-threatening flooding. The risk of strong tornadoes will continue into the evening hours across the southern and central portions of the Florida Peninsula.

We were excited to return to Peru to continue our partnership with the Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil (INDECI), which began in 2016 with the National Disaster Preparedness Baseline Assessment (learn more at pdc.org/NDPBA). On this recent visit, we supported a USSOUTHCOM initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of regional Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) across the country.
In Chachapoya, we collaborated with representatives from INDECI at the Gobierno Regional Amazonas, conducting a DisasterAWARE training session. The training started with an overview of PDC and DisasterAWARE, followed by an in-depth exploration of how to leverage the system for wildfire response, a critical national emergency in Peru. This session is one of five regional DisasterAWARE EOC trainings coordinated between the SOUTHCOM Humanitarian Assistance program and PDC.
