There’s a tropical disturbance being referred to as Invest 96S…which is located approximately 412 NM south of Diego Garcia
According to the JTWC…satellite imagery depicts a consolidating system with improved convective banding over the western semicircle.
Environmental conditions are marginally favorable with conducive sea surface temperatures, and diffluence aloft offset by moderate to high (20-25 knot) easterly vertical wind shear.
Global models indicate a westward to west-southwestward track with rapid consolidation over the next 36 hours.
Maximum sustained surface winds are estimated at 25 to 30 knots.
The potential for the development of a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours is upgraded to high.
