As an applied research center managed by the University of Hawai‘i, Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) has built its reputation and its products on the best science. Now it’s now teaming up with Georgetown University to innovate next-generation solutions to global crises. Bringing together the latest disaster management science and research from Georgetown’s world-class master’s program in Emergency and Disaster Management and combining it with PDC’s cutting-edge, global technology, the two organizations hope to “make communities safer all over the world,” according to Tim Frazier, Georgetown’s associate professor and faculty director of the Emergency and Disaster Management Program.
According to PDC’s Director of Disaster Services, Dr. Erin Hughey, PDC is working with entities around the world to build a comprehensive disaster management culture globally. Expanding on the partnership with Georgetown, she said, “I see this [partnership] as you bringing the next-generation of disaster managers into the fold and really professionalizing the field. The partnership is allowing us to leverage [the best] research, translate it into something meaningful, and get it into the hands of the practitioners.”
